Moth holes, cigarette burns and any other damage can sometimes be repaired by reweaving. There are 2 types of reweaving, the first one being a block weave, this method is good for suits and other woven wool fabrics, it involves taking a small piece of fabric from the garment (from an inconspicuous area) and weaving that piece of fabric into the garment, this is less expensive than French weaving and is somewhat visible after the process yet it is effective.
French Weaving involves weaving yarns by hand into the damaged areas to replace the missing yarns in the damaged area, with this method each yarn/ thread is woven back into the fabric, this method makes the damage invisible .Yarns used for reweaving are taken from an inconspicuous part of the garment or from an outside source. It's a tedious process and can be expensive as a small hole can take up-to 8 hours to fix.
Before starting the repair process, it is a good idea to have the wool article dry cleaned. Dry cleaning will kill and remove any unseen insect larvae and should flush out any loose fibers revealing the full extent of the insect damage.
